Singuini: Noodling around with Silly Songs.
Gr 1-6–The selections in this volume may be silly, but they vary enough to tickle children. Nothing is sacred–from folk tunes to those of Gilbert and Sullivan. Beginning with well-known melodies, 45 new songs emerge with entertaining lyrics. Songs to the tune of old favorites, story songs, miscellaneous fun, warm-ups and rounds, tongue twisters, parodies, variations in rhythmic difficulty, humorous vocal warm-ups, and two-part songs are all included. From the rhythmic difficulty of “Mary Possessed a Petite Offspring of a Ewe” to the alliteration of “Sam’s sixth sister sizzled thistles in a sausage pan” from the “Impossible to Sing Song,” these tunes provide musical fun through an instructional tool suitable for classrooms or campsites. An entertaining resource with strong appeal to elementary students.–Mary Elam, Forman Elementary School, Plano, TX
